Wingate, April 21 – Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church for John Winfield Stevens well known resident of this vicinity who died at his home at 9:15 o’clock Saturday night as a result of a stroke of apoplexy, suffered Saturday afternoon. The Rev. CB Smith officiated and burial was made in the Methodist Cemetery. Mr. Stevens was born May 21, 1855 near Newtown. He moved to this place from Newtown about 5 years ago. He married Olive Hibbs on August 18, 1891. He is survived by two children, Mrs. Charles Detter of this place and Charles Stevens of Danville Ill and a brother, William Stevens. - kbz
